Class Descriptions
Primary 1 & Primary 2
(Ages 3 -4) (Ages 5-7)
Primary Ballet | 30-35 minute class
Ballet is a strong base to other styles of dance and is highly recommended for all levels. In Primary ballet your child will learn the basics of ballet such as arm and feet positions. They will learn how to participate in a structured dance class environment, the importance of stretching, basic ballet terminology, as well as coordination and creative movement through fun exercises and dance games.
Primary Jazz | 30-minute class
This is a fun upbeat class where children will begin to become familiar with the basics of the jazz style of dance and will focus on kicks, isolation, as well as across the floor progressions and creative movement.
*Please label your child’s belongings with their name and bring their change of shoes in a small bag that can be sent into class
Primary Tap | 20-minute class
Tap is a challenging class for this age group, as it is often difficult for them to coordinate the different parts of their foot-which is why it is an abbreviated class session. However, this class will focus on creating the basic sounds of the toe tap and heel tap, as well as controlling movement in tap shoes.
Levels 1-3
Ballet | 45 minutes to 1hr and 15 minutes (depending on level)
Ballet is the core of all dance styles and is highly recommended for all levels. Ballet classes focus on teaching proper body placement as well as body alignment. Technique learned in ballet will carry over to jazz and contemporary classes. Students will learn ballet vocabulary, balance, strength, and style.
Jazz | 45 minutes to 1hr and 15 minutes (depending on level)
Jazz is a fun multi-dimensional style; jazz classes explore both contemporary and Broadway styles. Classes focus on teaching students to become familiar with proper body placement, vocabulary, coordination and technique.
Tap | 30 minutes
Tap classes focus on teaching students musicality and rhythm as well as the fundamental steps of tap, terminology, and proper body placement.
Contemporary | 30min- 1 hr (depending on level)
(**Must previously have 1 year of ballet training, 2 is preferred. Must also be currently enrolled in a ballet class, jazz is recommended but not required)
Contemporary is structured in ballet technique, which is why students must also be studying ballet; Classes will focus on strength, balance, and abstract movements. This style of dance combines other styles together such as ballet, modern,lyrical, and jazz. Students will learn how to dance with technique as well as emotion and various styles.
Hip-Hop | 30-45 minutes
Hip hop classes will focus on teaching students to develop a personal dance style and expression as well as isolation, body placement, and free style movements.
